There are often reports of parrots in Nassau. Many have also claimed to see Bahama Parrots around the island of New Providence but upon inspection the parrots have been found to be other parrot species that are frequently pets in the homes around Nassau.

However, on 21st May 2005, Ardastra received a call that there were four parrots hanging out in a dilly tree. These parrots were in fact Bahama Parrots as seen in the photo (left).

Bahama Parrots have not been spotted on the island of New Providence since the early colonial days as they were hunted and most of their habitat was initially destroyed.

Ardastra is not sure how these parrots got to the island of New Providence but it is an exciting discovery!!
